What? Only 4 days left?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Saturday, June 24, 2017,
I can't remember a year when SA has flown by like it did this year.  Maybe I just have too much going on in my outside of school life.  I don't know, it just flew by!!

Monday we will work hard to settle the Bears case and we will need to really work hard on our Safe and Supportive Schools Act case for school district 13.  We still have a criminal case to try so...YIKES!!  I wonder if we will get it all done!

Monday Ryan will be back so we will do a make up game of Capture the Flag.  Then on Thu...

Can you believe there are only 3 more days of SA?  Wow!  The blur that is Summer Academy seems to go faster and faster each year.  How can we only have 3 days left?

Tomorrow we will work on our client's marital termination agreement, meet our new client, and work on our Edu Law research project.  There will also be time given for work on office maintenance.

Tuesday is the open house and we will wrap up our divorce case and work hard on the other two projects.

Those Pesky Clients

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, June 22, 2015,
Keeping your client happy is not always easy.  But, they are the ones who pay you so you need to advocate for them once you take their case whether you want to or not.  Hmm...some of you found that hard to do today.

Remember that we go on a field trip again on Thursday and you need to decide by tomorrow whether or not you want the FREE lunch that the school provides.  We will take your lunch orders tomorrow.  Check with mom and dad and see what they say.

Tomorrow 1. Contract between students ...

Office Building and Capture the Flag Friday

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, June 19, 2015,
How did office building go?  Did you have enough time?  I can't wait to see the offices.
How did golf playing go?  Did you resolve your case over a friendly t-time?
How was Johnny as a sub?  Does he look and sound like Jim?
How...too many questions, not enough time.  I guess I will have to wait until I see you Monday unless you BLOG me!!  Blog me!
Did you get lots of billable time today?  Ha Ha  How was golf?  Lawyers probably do play golf with lawyer buddies to try to work things out, don't you ...

Day 2--Check!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, June 16, 2015,
Office construction has begun.  Yikes, it smells like cardboard.  Also, we are short a bit of cardboard but no worries, SA always comes through and I am sure you will all get more cardboard on Friday.  Tomorrow we will meet and work hard for our new client and bill lots of hours, I'm sure.  Then on Thursday we have a field trip and on Friday, more office construction.

Happy SA 2015!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, June 15, 2015,
It was so exciting to meet you all today.  You were a really hard working, focused, eager and enthusiastic group.  I really enjoyed being your teacher.  I kept thinking "lucky me" all day long.  And aren't Maren and Ryan the nicest, most helpful, cheerful TA's ever?!  Ryan is back for his 3rd year as my TA and Maren took the class once and now is back to TA.  Maybe one of you will be my TA one day.

Remember that tonight you are to:

1.  Blog a comment and respond to someone else's blog comment.

Only 3 Days to go :(

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Sunday, June 29, 2014,
How fast did Summer Academy fly by this summer?  Oh my, let me catch my breath.  Other than the super early mornings which are super hard for me, the rest of this has been a breeze.  You are such a great, hard working, enthusiastic class.  It has been such a pleasure to be your teacher.

Here's what we have left:  tomorrow we will meet to "tion" with our opposing counsel in the bear custody case.  Then you will get a chance to write up an agreement if you reach one or a chance to go to court if...

State Your Appearance for the Record!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, June 25, 2014,
Today you had your first court appearance. How did it go?  Everyone did a great job negotiating a settlement and I think you can all be very proud of your work in court.  Nobody seemed too nervous and even those of you who had a snafu or two ironed it out and worked through it and helped each other out.  Great to see!

Tomorrow we will start to work hard on our custody case.  Can you believe the BEARS are getting divorced.  So sad.  They are like the nicest family in the world.  I guess it ca...

In a mere 11.5 hours we will all be back at it.  We have briefs to write and oral arguments for Baker v. Sanji, we have a new case to learn about, glogsters to work on and journals to smash stuff in to.  Are you ready?  Did you rest this weekend?  Brace yourself, we have a full week ahead.

Remember, field trip on Thursday again.  We will be going to St. Thomas Law School, a small law firm and Gray, Plant and Moody.  We will also be stoping for ice cream, I hope.

See you tomorrow.  Mrs. Kovacs...

Field Trip Tomorrow

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, June 19, 2014,
Only 5 of you ordered a school lunch so please make sure you bring a lunch tomorrow.  You will be at SA from 8-2:30.  That would be a long day if you forget your food.

Tomorrow we will be going to the Ramsey County Gov't Center to watch court, talk to a judge, meet the county attorney and tour the building.  From there we will eat lunch on the bus as we travel to Minneapolis.  We will do a quick compare and contrast tour through the Hennepin County Gov't Center and then run through to the old ...

It's a Construction Zone In Here

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, June 18, 2014,
Ryan wants to know if he needs to wear a hard hat tomorrow.  Ha Ha!  I hope he doesn't get hurt, we found out today that worker's comp won't help him!

The offices are looking good.  There will be a bit of time to tweak them every day this week.  Be sure and add things that make them look office like--calendars on the wall, pictures of your family, desk caddies, file boxes and stuff like that.  If you have a brief case, bring it.  AJ mentioned that he was going to ask his dad about borrowing ...

Summer Academy 2014

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, June 16, 2014,
Wow did we ever cram a lot into 4 short hours.  First there was the reading of the morning newspaper with lawyer jokes and everything.  Then there was a staff meeting where we learned all about each other as well as how to write a contract.  Then we wrote a contract.  Next we opened a file for our contract case and learned about the steps to becoming a lawyer.  Step one, do well in school, then college, then the LSAT, then Law School and finally the dreaded bar exam.  Then we took the bar exa...

The Whirlwind that is Summer Academy

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, June 25, 2013,
I agree with Haeun, I can't believe SA is going by so fast.  We only have 2 more days!!  I can't believe that a mere 2 1/2 weeks ago I didn't know you kids (well except for Sage and Maren and Amy who attend the school I teach in) and now I feel like I know you so well.  I am going to miss everyone!  I think many of you will miss each other too!  And what about Ryan?  We will all miss Ryan!

Summer Academy hits like a storm and blows threw our lives so quickly.  You can't blink or you will miss ...

Happy Birthday Kaitlyn

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, June 21, 2013,
I totally forgot to wish Kaitlyn a Happy Birthday.  Shucks!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kaitlyn.  We'll talk about it tomorrow.

So how was the field trip?  Oh my, I am exhausted.  It was AMAZING and we got to talk to 2 more Judges and see some sentencing hearings and meet the Ramsey County Attorney and tour St. Thomas Law School.  Did you hear them say that 1700 people apply every single year to go to that law school?  Do you remember how many they let in?  Only 150 each year.  WOW!!  What do you suppose...

Our Second Long Day

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, June 19, 2013,
Please remember to bring a lunch for tomorrow.

Please know that I need to apologize up front but we are going to have to eat on the bus again.  YIKES!!

We are going to have a whirlwind trip.  We are going to see lots of court and a law school and things like that.  It will be fun and less formal than the last courthouse but still needing you to be on your very best behavior.  It is still REAL court and we might see REAL people receiving REAL jail sentences so clowning around is not allowed.  It...

What A Day!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, June 13, 2013,
Perhaps I tried to cram a little too much into our day but, man did we do a lot!!  Were you exhausted when you got home?  First we had a lovely, informative tour of Murnane and Brandt on the 32nd and 33rd floor of the Wells Fargo Building in downtown St. Paul.  The President of the law firm, Mr. Haas stopped in to talk to you.  Do you know how cool that is?

Then we ran off to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and 1. toured a trial court room and got to sit in the judge chair, the witness stand,...

Big Day Tomorrow!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, June 12, 2013,
First of all, don't forget a lunch.
Second of all, don't forget money if you want to buy ice cream.

Finally, please spend a little time researching what kind of cases court of appeals courts hear and how a case might get to the appeals court.  You can research the 8th circuit court of appeals specifically as that is where we will be going to hear oral arguments.  You also should familiarize yourself with the law firm of Murnane and Brandt.  They have a nice website that tells you all the kinds ...

Welcome To Kovacs and Associates

How was your Bar Exam?  Do you think you passed?  When do you think you will find out?  Actual law students who have graduated from law school study for a couple months before they take the real bar exam.  The real bar exam is 2 1/2 days long!  Can you imagine taking a test for 2 1/2 days?  After the bar exam is taken the test taker has to wait about 4 months to find out if they passed or not.  Oh my, what a long 3 1/2 to 4 months that is.  How long do you think you will have to wait until yo...
