I can't even believe how cold it is.  Some of you said that you took hot water, boiling water, and threw it outside and it vaporized before it even hit the ground.  My sons did that too so then Vlad and I and my husband John tried it and it worked for us too.  Why does that happen?  Do a little research and blog a comment about what you find out and you will earn yourself 10 tickets.

So how many of you voted "NO" we won't have school on Monday.  You were right.  You earned 10 tickets and one lucky person will get an immediate trip to the prize bucket.  What about tomorrow?  It is supposed to be 20 below tomorrow morning.  I wonder if we'll have school, no school, or school 2 hours late.  Blog your guess as to what tomorrow will bring and if you are right, you can have 10 tickets.

Subtract those mixed numbers.  Remember, if the problem is that you don't have enough in the fraction portion to subtract the other fraction from it, you have to pull a whole number out of the whole number part and put it into the fraction part.

Example:   4 1/4 - 2 3/4 =  you can't minus 3/4 from 1/4 so you have to take 4/4 from the 4 and make it a 3 and add it to the 1/4 and make it 5/4 so now you have 3 5/4 -2 3/4 = 1 2/4 or 1 1/2.

Your other choice is to make them both complete improper fractions and then subtract and then convert them back to a mixed number.  Same example would be 4 1/4 would become 17/4 and 2 3/4 would become 11/4 so you have 17/4 - 11/4 = 6/4 or 1 2/4 or 1 1/2.  Same answer both ways.  Do it the way that makes the most sense to you!

Don't forget to wrap up your Train topic research project and start writing your google doc.  The full assignment for that is laid out on the homework tab.  That is something you can be doing from home on these cold days when we don't have school.  Also remember we do have spelling words this week.  They are listed on the peek which is on the peek tab.

Blog me so we can stay connected even though we aren't at school.  Hey, it's like online classes!  You're like college kids now!!  Stay warm and have fun and stay school ready.
