Distance Learning--It's a Thing

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, March 26, 2020,
I am hopeful that we will be getting back together on May 4.  I am counting on it actually.

But it won't be Monday.  So.....how is distance learning going for you?  Blog a comment letting me know if it's taking you more than 3 hours a day to complete what we assigned.

Most of you are doing a great job keeping up with the work and getting your thoughts into a google doc.  Great job.  Moving forward let me tell you that there are a couple things you could do to make it easier for us to manage a...

Let me know how it goes.
Let me know what was good and what was hard.
We are working on the assumption that you will need to do this again next week so.....use this week to play around with this format and see how it goes.

Distance Learning

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, March 23, 2020,
1.  The whole point of distance learning is to keep you moving forward from home.
2.  The point of that is to make sure you don't have to go to school in the summer to be where you need to be next year
3.  You will get your first learning board tomorrow.  It is a practice run.  Let us know if there are problems for you.
4.  IF school is going to continue to run from homes, then you will get another board on Monday, March 30.

Here's what you can do to get ready.  Create a Google Doc and call it so...

Gratitude!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, March 20, 2020,
With all this heavy stuff going on and losing our school connections and worrying about things I thought it would be a great time to revisit ALL the things we are grateful for.

A house or home to hang out in
Food to eat
Family to hang out with
Friends we can blog with, call, and email
Sunshine today
The great outdoors and the ability to still walk, hike, bike
bikes
Dad jokes--blog one and get a laugh or two from your classmates.  Check out the blog.  I'll post one.
A school district that is coming u...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, March 18, 2020,
First of all, do you guys read this?  You need to.  IF you are reading this, blog a comment that says "I read the big blog comment".

I went to school today.

I saw a few kids who came in to get stuff.  That is an option.  The building is open and you can come pick things up.  We just need to stay 6 feet apart so no hugs etc.

Next week on Tuesday teachers are going to send you via email, SeeSaw, and maybe this website a Learning Board.  It will have assignments on it that you are required to do....

How Are You?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, March 17, 2020,
I miss you guys.
I am fine.  Taking the dog for long walks.  No one is outside.  You can go outside people!  Just don't interact with people who don't live in your house with you.

So....what are you doing?  I would LOVE you to engineer some cool trash to treasure things like toilet paper roll mini golf hole made of cardboard boxes and ...toilet paper rolls.  That seems fitting given the fact that one of the results of this epidemic is a run on toilet paper.  Send me pictures of your creations. ...

Never Have I Ever

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Sunday, March 15, 2020,
Never have I ever seen schools close for weeks on end.
Never have I ever thought I'd not get to see you for this long of a time!
Never have I ever had to teach online.  Good thing we have this blog to keep in touch.  Plus you can email me.  Plus I will no doubt be spending the next 2 days finding other ways to connect with you and other ways to teach you things.  I am still going to school to work on Monday and Tuesday and maybe even beyond.

I have been alive for many other epidemics.  These are...

  4.  Have a book to get cozy and read with.  We will do Read, Talk, Write on Monday and Tuesday.

Jamie Lyn Kovacs I am married to John Kovacs and have 5 sons, John age 34, Jim age 32, Joe age 29, Jake age 27, Vlad age 24. I also have 4 grandchildren, Jack and Lydia and newborn Josiah, who are the kids of my oldest son and his wife, and Kennedy who is the one year old daughter of my second son and his wife. The older kids are 6 and 4. My family lives in White Bear Lake. ____________My son John is married and lives in Turkey with his wife Pamela and sons Jack and Josiah and daughter Lydia. Hey, that makes me a grandmother--yikes! John is a teacher too. A couple years ago he taught at White Bear Lake and then for a couple years he's been teaching social studies to middle school kids at Hope Academy in Minneapolis. He also has taken classes at a seminary. He wrote a book called "The Historia" which you can buy on Amazon.com. He was a hockey player and played college hockey at Bethel. His wife is a lawyer worked at a big law firm in Minneapolis. Cool! Hey, guess what. I am a lawyer too!! This will be my 14th year teaching as I practiced law for over 15 years. Teaching is way more fun!! Now they are living in Turkey and simply trying to learn the language and make connections. This year my son has started free lance writing for many different publications. __________My son Jim lives in Blaine with his wife Courtney and daughter Kennedy. They both graduated from Winona State where they were star pitchers on their baseball and softball teams. Jim graduated from St. Thomas School of Law. He clerked for a judge and now he works for a law firm in Golden Valley. His wife graduated from Des Moines University Medical School where she studied to be a physical therapist. She works for Twin Cities Orthopedics. You can check out pictures of their wedding on the summer vacation tab. Their daughter is very funny and cute and I often show the class pictures of her. __________My son Joe graduated from Moorhead State. He, like his brothers was a good athlete and loved sports. He also is a great singer and performer and was Danny Zuko in Grease, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and Curly in Oklahoma--all in WBL high school. He has a teaching license and did some long term subbing in WBL most recently at Hugo Elementary School. Next he worked at Infinite Campus training teachers on software that his employer makes. He is a superstar in math. He was a TA for a professor in the computer science department. He really likes to golf and was on the White Bear Lake golf team. He worked at Gem Lake so if you ever golf there, you may have seen Jake. Do you like golf? As soon as he graduated he started working full time at a company that writes online computer games. He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. He is engaged to a darling girl named Molly who works at his same company. She is a game tester and plays the games the guys like Jake write. They are getting married January 2. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that. We traveled to his homeland, Latvia, 3 times to make him ours. He has been living with us since March of 2010. He graduated from WBL High School too.
