Another Weekend Already!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, September 28, 2012,
I can't believe how fast this week flew by.  We did get our wonder books started and for that I am grateful!  If I am grateful about that, where could I record that?  Hmm...I wonder.

Next week we will do life boats and sinkers in science, we will take a math quiz early in the week and wrap up unit one during the week.  We will start researching for our fury power points.  Good times ahead, I promise.  I wonder if anyone will pick a volcanoe?

Next week is October already!  We will start recordin...

Falling Behind

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, September 26, 2012,
Today we had patrol training so we didn't get as far in science as we should have.  We will wrap up pendulums tomorrow and study a bit for the quiz and then take the quiz either tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.  We'll see how it goes.
The think I love about 5th grade is how busy you are and how there is so much going on but it is hard to get in a groove.

Artist trading cards are well under way and we will have to set aside time on Flex Friday to trade them.  Would you like to do that for o...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, September 24, 2012,
We had ART!!  Fun.  Two tickets to everyone who blogs a comment about the art project we did today with Lisa.  They are already up and they look amazing.

We had our last week's spelling test and talked about how much each word is worth.  In a 20 word test you can only get 2 wrong to still have an A.  Wow, it's tough!!

Have a great evening.  Get outside and enjoy the mild weather.  It is BEAUTIFUL!!

Happy Weekend! Go BEARS!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, September 21, 2012,
The parade is over and the big game is tonight.  Who do you think will win?  When Jimmy was a senior he was the quarterback and his team beat Cretin Derham Hall on homecoming night.  It was really exciting.

Tomorrow night is the big dance.  Vlad is going with some friends.  He wants to see what it is all about.  He bought his own ticket and everything.  How cute is that?  I can't wait to hear what he has to say about it when it is over.  I bet he will have a great time.  He is not bringing a d...

I am off to pick Vlad up from soccer.  With our MAP testing behind us we are on our way to getting a schedule set for the year. A Whirl Wind Weekend and Right Back At It

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, September 10, 2012,
On Friday I flew to St. Louis, MO right after school.  My poor husband and Vlad, who spent all day driving to St. Louis, picked me up at the airport.  We ate a super late dinner and then checked into a hotel.  The next morning we got up at 6:30 and drove to Owensboro, KY for our niece Katie's wedding reception.  She was married in November in a private ceremony and they just had time to celebrate it now.  Then we stayed overnight and got up at 6 on Sunday and drove home.  I am a bit tired fro...

Week 1 is Going So Well!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, September 6, 2012,
We have had a couple of wonderful days in 2605.  There are a lot of procedural things to go over and that is not so fun (think playground rules, behavior assemblies, lunch procedures and more) but we have intermixed it with fun things like math, Spanish, and a great beginning of the year read aloud book about a crazy family called the Herdmans, so all in all it has been fun.

I really miss the kids who moved on to middle school and I love love love it when they write in and tell us all about ...

My family lives in White Bear Lake. ____________My son John is married and lives in Turkey with his wife Pamela and son Jack and daughter Lydia. Hey, that makes me a grandmother--yikes! John is a teacher too. A couple years ago he taught at White Bear Lake but for the last couple years he's been teaching social studies to middle school kids at Hope Academy in Minneapolis. He also has taken classes at a seminary. He wrote a book called "The Historia" which you can buy on Amazon.com. He was a hockey player and played college hockey at Bethel. His wife is a lawyer worked at a big law firm in Minneapolis. Cool! Hey, guess what. I am a lawyer too!! This will be my 13th year teaching as I practiced law for over 15 years. Teaching is way more fun!! Now they are living in Turkey and simply trying to learn the language and make connections. This year my son will be teaching high school world history at an international school. __________My son Jim lives in Blaine with his wife Courtney. They both graduated from Winona State where they were star pitchers on their baseball and softball teams. Jim graduated from St. Thomas School of Law. He clerked for a judge and now he works for a law firm in Golden Valley. His wife graduated from Des Moines University Medical School where she studied to be a physical therapist. She works for Twin Cities Orthopedics. You can check out pictures of their wedding on the summer vacation tab. __________My son Joe graduated from Moorhead State. He, like his brothers was a good athlete and loved sports. He also is a great singer and performer and was Danny Zuko in Grease, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and Curly in Oklahoma--all in WBL high school. He has a teaching license and did some long term subbing in WBL most recently at Hugo Elementary School. Next he worked at Infinite Campus training teachers on software that his employer makes. He got to travel all over the United States. He is married to Emily, and there are pictures of them you can check out on the vacation tab as well. Emily is a pharmacist for CVS in Targets. They just moved to Washington DC so he could attend George Washington University and get an MBA. __________My son Jake graduated from University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. He is a superstar in math. He was a TA for a professor in the computer science department. He really likes to golf and was on the White Bear Lake golf team. He worked at Gem Lake so if you ever golf there, you may have seen Jake. Do you like golf? As soon as he graduated he started working full time at a company that writes online computer games. He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that. We traveled to his homeland, Latvia, 3 times to make him ours. He has been living with us since March of 2010. He graduated from WBL High School too. He traveled to China with the high school a couple years ago and wants to go back. Can you believe that you can travel with your classmates and friends when you are in high school? He is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He spent a semester in Seoul, S. Korea in a study abroad program through River Falls. We will officially be empty nesters. _________My husband John works for Collins Electrical Company as a project manager but he is amazing with computers. He set up this web site for me!! Thanks John.
