I Missed You Guys!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, January 31, 2012,
I talked to the sub after school and she said you were as charming and wonderful as I said you were.  WAY TO GO!!  You know I really LOVE to get that kind of report.

Gunner and Preston still weren't there?  Guys, are you all right?  I mean really, are you going to be ok?

Tomorrow we will work on the science pages, more on the reading and grammar, you will perform for me the Paul Revere poem and together we will move ahead in math--on to probability.

What is the probability that you will get yo...

I'm Gone Tomorrow

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, January 30, 2012,
I have a teacher meeting at the district center tomorrow and you have a sub.  I trust you will be on your very best behavior so I come back to a good report.  The last couple times I have had to be gone you were AMAZING!!  Keep up the streak.

MAP testing went very well for most of you.  That's good news for all of us.  What might some strategies be for making your reading goal if you have not made it yet?  Blog an idea and you can have 4 tickets tomorrow.

Gotta run and do my sub plans.  Who do ...

Let It Snow!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, January 27, 2012,
Why did it quit already?  Oh my!  So far this winter has really been a bust.

Gunner were you sick?  Preston are you in Duluth at a hockey tournament? That's what the rumor is.

I am happy to give away tickets to anyone who blogs a comment about the poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere".  All you have to do is say ANYTHING--who the author is, what a steed is, what a belfry is, how many laterns are involved, whether you like it or not, what it means to grab arms--ANYTHING!!  I will give you 5 ti...

This is my Day Book

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, January 26, 2012,
Paul Revere seems like a pretty amazing guy, huh?  Cool how he kept a "day book" that he wrote interesting stuff in.  We read it to learn about history.  I still can't believe he had 16 children!  Wow.  Tomorrow we will read Henry Wadsworth Longfellow"s poem, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and then relook at the fun story in the book.

Tonight, blog a comment about the math we have been doing and you can have 4 tickets.  Blog about the terms, the process, give an example or ask a question you...

No Games Tonight?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, January 25, 2012,
What will I do for entertainment?  Maybe I'll go to a movie.

How did mom and dad like your report card?  Blog a one word comment that sums up their feelings about your report card and you can have 5 tickets.  We will do a drawing tomorrow and I put some interesting passes in there for fun--things like stay in for recess with 3 friends and have lunch with ME and a few friends in the classroom, stuff like that.

Science is eating up all our time again.  Weird!!  I forgot how much I like the Paul R...

Yobbie's Team Won and He Scored!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, January 25, 2012,
I got to see Yobbie's team beat the Mustangs of Moundsview tonight.  Way to go Yobbie.  Did you know that he's one of the Captains?  Cool!

So now I have seen Nate and Yobbie play hockey.  Does anyone else play?  Hmm...let me know when.  What about basketball?  Anything else I can come watch?

Report cards go home tomorrow.  Be ready.  They are printed and copied and in the envelopes ready to go home.

Finally, A Cool Room

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, January 20, 2012,
Well now it may actually be cold.  I don't dare ask them to heat it up though, right?  Cool air keeps us on our toes so lets just go with it.

The MLK speeches were amazing.  We will talk on Tuesday about what you liked the best, what you thought worked and what you thought didn't work.  We can give specific compliments to groups and individuals.  Some of you were amazing.  Ms. Stamson and Mr. Bock loved it and their classes were a very good audience, wouldn't you agree?

Jordan, Joe--are you guy...

Kovacs is Casted

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, January 19, 2012,
At least it is a removeable cast that velcroes on--like about 20 different straps!  Now my neck and back and hip hurt along with my healing foot.  Weird.  I am going to need to depend on you guys to get yourselves to and from some places WITHOUT making a sound.  You have been so amazing in the hall this year, can you keep it up?  I think you CAN.

Practice your reading for the MLK performance tomorrow.  You can find the speech on line.  Hmm...maybe I could attache it here.  I wonder...

Have a go...

2 In Days in a Row

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, January 18, 2012,
It's a bit tough to take.  Some of you need to get outside and get some fresh air.  Tomorrow is not going to be any better.  Our only hope is Friday.  If it's nice on Friday maybe we'll do a wonder walk.

We did some housekeeping and discussing about BIN books and Independent Reading requirements.  Are you set?  Check with me tomorrow and we will have 1 last chance to get everyone squared away.  If you know you have work to do, do it at home.

Our MLK speech is going to be awesome.  I am really e...

No MAP Testing Today--Weird!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, January 17, 2012,
So it turns out the state of MN didn't quite have the online test ready to go so we will take the reading portion on Jan. 30 at 10:00 unless Ms. Stamson needs us to switch with her and go on the 25th.  The math one is the week after that.  Weird that it didn't work.  But here were computer issues all over our district today.

The MLK speech is going to be cool.  You guys are already doing a nice job with your round 1 pre-reading.  Tomorrow, I will read some of the hard words for you and we will...

Relaxing, Low Key Day

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Saturday, January 14, 2012,

The concert and show at Central Middle School was so much fun.  The 8th graders and teachers worked really hard to put on a fun show and it was FUN!!  We then had a wonderful afternoon of choice time and getting cozy by the fireplace.  I could do more days like this one, don't you agree?

What will it be?  Band or choir or music class?  Spanish or French or German or Chinese?   So many exciting things ahead!!   Have a great weekend.  Good luck all you sports players.          Mrs. Kovacs

Where's the Snow?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, January 11, 2012,

The news promised snow!  Where is the snow?  I want snow?  Is that a little too whiney?  Hmm...

So tonight I plan to go to the club but I still am unsure what to do.  I think I have a stress fracture or some other thing wrong with my foot so my usual 2 miles on the treadmill are painful.  I cut 'er back to one mile and some spinning on the bike some days and weights and stretches and stuff like that the other days.  Foot is worse.  Hmm...my brother says I need to get it x-rayed and I can do th...

Mr. Doebler Saves the Day

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, January 10, 2012,
The Marvin and Jessie skit on service and hard work was during our phy ed time.  We were all very sad about this.  But then as I was walking through the office to pick you up from lunch who should I run into other than the one and only Prince Charming, Mr. Doebler.  "Hey, Mrs. Kovacs, just the teacher I wanted to see," he said.

"What's up?"

"Well, as you know, your class will be missing most of phy ed today."

"Yeh, they are really bummed out.  Actually, they've been whining like little babies ab...

3 Gone Today

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, January 9, 2012,
We had a small group.  Weird.  We also did a lot of things so those 3 will have some catching up to do.  Yikes.  Steven, hope you feel better soon.  Rachel, sorry about your meeting with a baseball bat, and Brock, what is the story with you?  Hope you are ok.

Tomorrow you need to have some materials here to work on your school yard model.  What are you supposed to bring?  Little cars?  Things to make trees?  Hmmm...not sure what you agreed to bring but I do know it needs to come in tomorrow.  ...

Snowman Crafts Next Week

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, January 6, 2012,
Next week we are going to continue with our snowmen by 1. creating some fun snowmen characters and 2. writing some fun snowman stories and poems.  Later (in a week or so) we will be building on that and creating snowman puppet shows or plays.  I wonder who will choose what.

Some kids have missing work and we will work on catching that up next week.  Make sure your Long Lake packet, your math project and now your map of the school yard are done and you will have the most recent things in, anywa...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, January 3, 2012,
The first day of school for the new year was great.  We went on a winter wonder walk and got some great fresh air.  We also wrote in our life journal about all the things we got for presents in the last week or two.  Amazing what some of us got!  Wow!!  We also got 4 mn and 37 seconds to walk around the room and tell others about our vacation and new stuff.  Fun.

We cleaned our desks so that we can start out the new year organized and caught up and ready to go.  It feels so good to have everyt...

It Snowed!! Happy New Year!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Sunday, January 1, 2012,
I just got in from shoveling the driveway with my husband.  It was so nice, snowy and beautiful and quiet and peaceful.  The snow was heavy and so white and fresh.  It felt great to be outside.

Happy New Year everyone.  It is 1:18 am and I realize that the college kids are winning the battle.  I have been up until after 1 every night this week and today I slept until 11:00.  Crazy schedule.  It is going to hurt to go back to school.

I saw OJ today and it made me realize how much I miss all you ...
