Google Docs and More

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, April 30, 2012,
Wow.  What a big day of learning.  Sorry for Josh and Courtney who missed this day.  We are on a roll in google docs.  Your living history projects are up and running and we are all clear on all the new deadline dates.  Good times.

Please please please give your mom the invite for the lunch.  Jessie, your mom will have to split her time.  That sounds fun!  Be sure and explain that we will have food available to those who pay.  Otherwise, lunch is on your own.

Please please please get your movie...

It Was a Rough day in 2605

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, April 27, 2012,
First, we had a nice gift for Joe and all the makings of a fun good bye party and then Joe didn't come to school.  We were all pretty sad.  Then, Ms Dahlem caught you being loud in the hallway--which you usually are NOT-- so it's kind of sad.  Then she got mad at me and so then I was mad.  Then, Mr. Doebler had to get crabby at you for not listening and following directions and he told me to expect to pick up half my class in the office next time they have Phy Ed.  Wow, Mr. Doebler is the mos...

I guess now it's not going to get cold until tomorrow.  Nate says they are NEVER right so, we'll see!  How did you like the art project with Mr. Molter's wife?  She was fun, huh?  Blog a comment about the art we did with her and you can have 2 tickets.

Thanks for doing a good job answering the 4th graders questions.  Can you believe they will be in this room next year and be the top dogs in the school?  Hard to believe, huh?  I am going to miss you guys.

Get out and soak up the sun.   See ya ...

I Can't Believe Our Video Didn't make the News

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, April 13, 2012,

It is so sad that we taped lots of fun purple activities and then our video didn't make the news.  Hmm...I wonder if Mrs. Severson just forgot?  I wonder if she'll put it on the news for Monday.  So many wonders.

Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings we will be taking the MCA reading test.  Please have with you plenty of pencils, sharpened and ready to go.  Also, you should have a healthy snack as we will take a break between segments.  Finally, make sure you have a book to read or marke...

Wear Purple Tomorrow

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, April 12, 2012,
Blog a comment about why we are going to wear purple tomorrow and you can have 4 tickets.

Study those spelling words, they are hard.  Ask Preston about being one of the winners in the Staffle this year.  He got to have a ton of fun shooting on me as the goalie in a floor hockey game in the gym after school.  It was a blast.  I mostly watched.

Have a great evening.  Tomorrow is Friday!

How's Your Online Science Course Coming?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, April 11, 2012,
Keep in mind that anytime you like you may take the online science learning home and work through a virtual lab or two on your own.  I am going to count out the days pretty soon and figure out where we need to be and how much you have to get through every day so that you will get done before we science MCA test.

Show mom and dad how you do the decimal number divided by a whole number problems.  Make a few problems for them to solve.  Maybe like there are 5 people in our family.  We go to Dis...

On To MCA Reading

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, April 10, 2012,
With the bulk of the MCA math behind us, we are now moving on to MCA reading.  We made a list on the board today of all the skills we think they may test us on in the language arts areana.  Oh my, what a long list. As I look at it I realize it is a culmination of 6 years of elementary school but still, what a list.  Oh my.

I love this weather.  It is sunny and cheerful but not too hot.  I think 50-60 degrees is perfect.  You can wear a cozy sweatshirt and cuddle up on the couch and be comforta...

My plan is to rest up.  For some reason I am exhausted.  Although, my weekend is only 3 days long as teachers work on Monday.  The first half of the day we plan and discuss and then we work on report cards the second half of the day.  I like it better when you guys are in school with me.  It's quiet here without you.

We will be shifting our focus to the upcoming reading MCA as soon as we step into the school on Tuesday.  We will take some practice tests for practice and then relook at many of ...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, April 2, 2012,
Math is really all I can think about.  I worry, "Did I teach them this?  Did I show them that?  Am I just confusing them with all this review?  I am pretty ready for Wed. and Thurs. to be DONE!!  How do you feel about it.  Perhaps I should try some of the wonderful test taking tips you came up with today and a. stay calm, b. take a brain break, c. Relax and just do my best.  I really have done my best in trying to teach you what you need to know.  Hmm...5 tickets to everyone who writes me an ...

My family lives in White Bear Lake. ____________My son John is married and lives in Turkey with his wife Pamela and son Jack and daughter Lydia. Hey, that makes me a grandmother--yikes! John is a teacher too. A couple years ago he taught at White Bear Lake but for the last couple years he's been teaching social studies to middle school kids at Hope Academy in Minneapolis. He also has taken classes at a seminary. He wrote a book called "The Historia" which you can buy on Amazon.com. He was a hockey player and played college hockey at Bethel. His wife is a lawyer worked at a big law firm in Minneapolis. Cool! Hey, guess what. I am a lawyer too!! This will be my 13th year teaching as I practiced law for over 15 years. Teaching is way more fun!! Now they are living in Turkey and simply trying to learn the language and make connections. This year my son will be teaching high school world history at an international school. __________My son Jim lives in Blaine with his wife Courtney. They both graduated from Winona State where they were star pitchers on their baseball and softball teams. Jim graduated from St. Thomas School of Law. He clerked for a judge and now he works for a law firm in Golden Valley. His wife graduated from Des Moines University Medical School where she studied to be a physical therapist. She works for Twin Cities Orthopedics. You can check out pictures of their wedding on the summer vacation tab. __________My son Joe graduated from Moorhead State. He, like his brothers was a good athlete and loved sports. He also is a great singer and performer and was Danny Zuko in Grease, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and Curly in Oklahoma--all in WBL high school. He has a teaching license and did some long term subbing in WBL most recently at Hugo Elementary School. Next he worked at Infinite Campus training teachers on software that his employer makes. He got to travel all over the United States. He is married to Emily, and there are pictures of them you can check out on the vacation tab as well. Emily is a pharmacist for CVS in Targets. They just moved to Washington DC so he could attend George Washington University and get an MBA. __________My son Jake graduated from University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. He worked at Gem Lake so if you ever golf there, you may have seen Jake. Do you like golf? As soon as he graduated he started working full time at a company that writes online computer games. He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that. We traveled to his homeland, Latvia, 3 times to make him ours. He has been living with us since March of 2010. He graduated from WBL High School too. He traveled to China with the high school a couple years ago and wants to go back. Can you believe that you can travel with your classmates and friends when you are in high school? He is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He spent a semester in Seoul, S. Korea in a study abroad program through River Falls. We will officially be empty nesters. _________My husband John works for Collins Electrical Company as a project manager but he is amazing with computers. He set up this web site for me!! Thanks John.
