TRICK or TREAT!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, October 31, 2011,
We had 5 trick or treaters this year which is 5 more than we had last year.  Sad.  We used to get many more but...our kids are grown up and you know how dark it gets down my dead end street.  It's too long of a walk with too little of a reward.  Vlad went to his friends where they answered the door with scary faces to try to scare the little kids.  He said not that many kids came there either.  Weird!  Maybe Monday Halloweens are not that great.

It was a fun day in school, though.  We read by ...

Puss In Boots!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, October 28, 2011,
Most of us really loved the old 1988 version of this story.  I forgot it was a musical--musicals are fun though it didn't seem like that was your favorite part!  We have considered many different characteristics of ogres and ogre tales and compared them to troll tales and other folk and fairy tale characters.  There are some themes that emerge.  Name one in a blog and you can march your little self straight to the prize bucket on Monday morning.  By the way, the prize bucket is looking AMAZIN...

We will get a chance to work on our Ogre poems and drawings again tomorrow.  Mr. Doebler wants to come and hear them.  He is going to sit in an adorondak chair and those who want to share their poems with him can go there.  Fun!!

Are you excited to start your electronic story book?  I can't wait.  I scheduled the computer lab for next Thurs. and Friday and that is when we will start.  We are going to be busy before that as we need to get our stories written and do story boards and plan out the...

Ogres, Ogres, Everywhere

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, October 25, 2011,
We have quite a snarly tale on our hands.  What is up with Awful Ogre?  What is up with the Ogre of Oglefort?  What is up with me that I don't ever remember to send home the Shrek permission slip?  If you remind me tomorrow, you can have 4 tickets.

Student council needs to send home the food drive flyer.  Stu Co kids, remind me.  I'll send it down with you.  Not a big job, just one we need to get one, now!

Tomorrow we are going to think and wonder some more things about our ogre stories.  Did...

Talking, Talking and more Talking

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, October 24, 2011,
It's so hard to come back to an organized setting after being off for 4 days and talking whenever you want.  At least it must be cause it seemed like it was.  Hmm...

How are you liking our Ogre study? Blog a comment that tells if you like it or not and why or why not and you can have 4 tickets.

We had a guest reader we need to thank.  We should write her some notes!  If you think of it, write her a note at home and give it to me to get to her.  Be sure and remember to thank her for being such...

Science Rocks!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, October 19, 2011,
Did you see that the one guy, the mad scientist, had on a button that said "Science is Fun"?  Science sure is fun.  I have enjoyed watching you fling things and float things and swing things.  I will offer up an immediate trip to the prize bucket for anyone who can tell me the reason we flung, floated and swung things.  What were we trying to do?

Everything will be turning up green ogres in the next few weeks.  Hold on to your horses, here we go!  It's an ogre study!

Have a great four day weeke...

Your Parents are Coming, Your Parents are Coming!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, October 13, 2011,
Isn't that so exciting.  I feel like some kids think home, school, parents, teachers, never the twain shall meet.  But alas, my darlings, we are meeting TODAY!!

I can't wait to hear what your parents have to say about you and I can't wait to tell them what I know.  Will you be there to hear the conversation?

Love love loved Jessie's math problem.  I am happy to give up a trip to the prize bucket to anyone who writes another wonderful math word problem.  But don't solve it!  Then, anyone who r...

Thursday is Friday

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, October 12, 2011,
Tomorrow is the last day of this week for students.  The teachers will be here to meet with parents well into the night tomorrow and then again all day Friday.  Crazy, right?  That's ok, teachers don't need to sleep!

Tomorrow's morning work is going to be a real newspaper--Scholastic News. It looks so interesting I just might have to read it now!

Tomorrow we will get back the math test BEFORE science, I hope.  Also, we need to move ahead in math so there will be some math homework for the weeke...

WEAR ORANGE on Oct. 12--That's Tomorrow!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, October 11, 2011,
Wear orange tomorrow to unite with the WORLD (or at least our school district) to show unity against bullying.  Stop the bullying, stop it now!  I have orange ribbon here you can tie around your wrist if you miss reading this before you get dressed.

The power points are coming along.  Remember, you are each other's best asset when it comes to technology.  Find a friend and ask for help--trust me, your friends are better at the computer than I am!  We will hit them again hard tomorrow just taki...

Friday Cafe Time

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, October 10, 2011,
What did you do in cafe time on Friday.  We were talking about having you do some family work.  For example, we talked about having you create a menu for cafe time--did you do that?  We talked about you teaching 4th graders about artist trading cards--did you do that?

I have 2 books I would like us to read and discuss as families during cafe time this week.  The first is Mrs. Spitzer's Garden.  I think we should read it, discuss it with our family and then make a family flower with the family ...

Artist Trading Cards a Big Hit in The Village

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, October 6, 2011,

Today we introduced our families to Artist Trading Cards.  They seemed to love them as much as we do.  Tomorrow we are going to have a trade fair.  Good times.  Kyle the art teacher loved the idea too and might be able to stop by as well.  He is so much fun, isn't he.  He said, "I want in!"  He's great at art so we want him in.  A win win for everybody.

Algebra is getting more familiar.  It is really just a new way to look at things you already know about.  It's the in and out machine.  It's f...

Check out the summer vacation tab.  I finally added a few of Kayla's awesome trip pics from the summer.  I will add some Wargo ones soon.

Today's math caused a few headaches in the room.  I am excited to see how the homework turns out.  A few kids really got it, a few more kind of got it and a few had headaches.  We will practice some more.  In fact, here's one now:

Wargo Rocked!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, October 4, 2011,
What a beautiful day to be outside.  I mean, really!!  It felt like an extra day of summer.  The activities were amazing, the kids were all smiles and the bees were EVERYWHERE.  Good times.

The Village Press, 3rd edition came out today and the lead article was written by Antonia Green.  Kinda made me sad to think of poor Antonia sitting in a hospital bed, unable to talk, missing out on cafe time and all the other cool things we are doing here at school.  Don't worry Antonia, I'll come visit yo...

We are injury and illness prone right now, so be careful out there this weekend!  Sperry is home recovering from an awful break in his arm.  I saw a picture and trust me, arms are not supposed to bend that way.  Yikes.  Antonia is recovering from one procedure just to face the removal of tonsils (put the correct spelling of tonsils in a blog comment and you can have 2 tickets) next week.  Steven has stiches, Hunter left feeling sick...we are in tough shape!  I am going to have to put in the r...
