I Miss You Guys!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, March 30, 2011,
So the sub said most of you were wonderful.  There are a couple who didn't do their work and now get to do it during recess in the office tomorrow.  Why would that seem like fun to you?  Weird!

Mrs. Kronebush is really impressed by your wonderful science fair boards and she is going to show them off to her class tomorrow.

How is division coming?  Chunk it into things you know how to do.  YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Today's BHTQ is: when is the snow going to melt?  Pick a day that you think we will finally...

Science Fair Projects

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, March 28, 2011,
How is your's coming?  We have seen 3 really good presentations so far.  I told Alex that if he brought the supplies I would let him show us his experiment in class.  Call him and remind him if you know his number.  Just don't forget, you need to have your project in by April 4 and we need to see all the presentations before April 8 and the science fair at school.

Today we heard some ideas from kids who are getting A's on how to study for the spelling/vocab test.  As you know, many of you ar...

Break A Leg, Rachel and Antonia

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, March 25, 2011,
The big musical, The Pied Piper, has it's opening show tonight.  Break a leg, everybody!!  Did you know that you tell actors and actresses to "break a leg" and that means "good luck"?  Weird.  I wonder where that originated.

I am going to the show tomorrow afternoon.  Are you going?  It is at the Maplewood Community Center and stars all Oneka students.  What a wonderful opportunity these kids have to showcase their talents and skills.

There is an immediate trip and some ticket offerings other...

Just Got out of Class

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, March 25, 2011,
So I just finished my class I had to take for renewing my license to teach.  It was on mental health issues and kids.  Since my class is so wonderful, I'm sure I don't really need that training.

Tomorrow we will do something kind of fun in social studies.  We will also review chapter 6 to see what you learned.  Florida and the Everglades, Kennedy Space Center and lots of coastline; Louisianna and the Mississippi Delta; Tennessee and the Appalachain Mountains.  If you want an immediate trip to ...

Still not at 100%

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, March 22, 2011,

Yesterday we were missing Hunter and Jordan who were both in Florida and actually ran into eachother there.  They are both so nice and tan right now.  It looks so cool--I am so winter white.  Today we were missing Brock.  Brock, where are you?

For an immediate trip to the prize bucket blog a comment that is at least 3 sentences long and tells us a little bit about your science experiment.  Maddie and Carly shared their's today and it was AWESOME!!  They wondered if the life of a bubble is affe...

R U Rested, Rejuvenated, Ready to Go?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Sunday, March 20, 2011,
We are going to hit the ground running tomorrow.  I spent most of the break dreaming up things for us to do--just kidding.  We will start working on MCA practice tests, power points on the two guys who used electricity to create many great inventions, continue working on the southeast region, finally read Maria Isabell, move into division after a quick review of area and perimeter that uses metric units of measurement, and finally perform the troll plays.  Your group is going to meet and deci...

Spring Break!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Saturday, March 12, 2011,
An immediate trip to the prize bucket for everyone who blogs a nice comment to Jenna Vail as she lays around in the sun in Florida.  In order to qualify your comment has to be at least 3 sentences long.  Don't make me require a number of words in each sentence, please.  2 tickets to everyone who blogs a comment that explains what I meant by that last sentence.

Sorry about the spelling test.  We will do some team work with the words and their meanings and I will give you time to refresh all you...

Oh Shoot, Foiled Again!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, March 10, 2011,
I really thought we'd win this time.  In the first overtime the Bears looked fantastic and strong and Duluth East seemed to be worn out and tired.  But alas, we lost again.  That makes 18 trips to the state tournament without even one first game win.  Now to be fair, when both my boys lost that first game it stunk but both their teams came back and won the consolation championship so....we could still do that this year.  Remember that consolation was our word of the day and it is a prize give...

Go Bears!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, March 9, 2011,
Tomorrow is round one of the high school hockey tournament.  John and Jim each got to play in the state tournament as high school juniors.  It was very exciting.  Both of them lost their first game, John to Roseville (Roseville won the tournament that year) and Jim to Duluth East.  However, both of their teams went on to WIN the next 2 games and become consolation champions.  In fact, White Bear Lake has yet to win their first game at the state tournament.  Maybe this can be the team to break...

BHTQ and an Immediate Trip

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, March 9, 2011,
I have been tired and therefore a bit lax on the BHTQ.  Here is one:  Which state in the southeast region seems most interesting to you?  Blog a a comment answering that question by naming the state and telling why you chose it and why you look forward to learning more about it.  If you do you can have 4 tickets.

For an immediate trip to the prize bucket write a story problem for this numerical equation:  27 x 5 =
Blog the story problem.  Here is mine:  The high school swim team coach had 27 k...

Picture Day Tomorrow!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, March 8, 2011,
I didn't get home until 9:30.  Weird!  The last conference was over by 8:10 but then I corrected the math quiz we took today.  We will start by relooking at that tomorrow in math.  Hmm...perhaps we should have shaken the cob webs out before we took the quiz.

Everyone seemed to do really well on the study guide/practice test.  Did you?  Relook at the ones you got wrong.  It is going to be mandatory that you do each problem 2 x to check your work.  Many little mistakes were made that added up to...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Saturday, March 5, 2011,

So hockey fans, it's off to the state high school hockey tournament for the White Bear Lake Bears.  GO BEARS!!  Their first game is against Duluth East on Thursday at 1:00.  Jake will be going because he will be playing in the band.  It's his birthday and he has a concert that night--it will be a busy day!!

In other news, I got to see Zacman and the Kliest boys play a basketball game this morning.  They were down by 10 or 12 oints but in the last 10 minutes got to within 2.  It was so exciti...

Have a Great 4 Days Off!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, March 3, 2011,
And be sure and think of poor old Mrs. Kovacs working her fingers to the bone tomorrow getting report cards done, MAP score reports printed, student files organized and more.  Then, at 5, parents start coming to hear all about how you are performing in school.  How are are you performing?

I will be telling your parents about the upcoming science fair that Mrs. Haug and Mrs. Biddle are requesting ALL 4th graders participate in.  I will explain it at the conferences and again at school next week...

Happy Birthday to Mr. Kovacs

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, March 1, 2011,

I had a meeting at the district center after school and then it was rush home to wrap the gifts, set the table, and put the finishing touches on the birthday dinner.  Mr. Kovacs got a remote control helicopter, a play mobile snowmobile (as a joke because he really wants a snowmobile) and a cool shirt/sweater/sweatshirt type thing.  I also got him some mighty beans just cause I thought they were kinda cool looking.  If you know what to do with them, blog a comment with some suggestions (Vlad a...
