7 People got a FREE Prize Bucket Trip!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, September 29, 2010,
No free trip to the prize bucket today.  Maybe tomorrow.

But, I do have lots of tickets now so the BHTQ for today is:  if you write a compliment to a classmate on the blog, you can have 5 tickets.

Wow, 5 tickets just for saying things like, "Courtney, you sure are a great pod member to our pod.  I appreciate how quietly you work and how willing you are to help me when I need to remember something.  Thanks for being such a great asset."

Compliments need to be specific and clearly state a good qua...

Today I am willing to offer a free trip directly to the prize bucket--do not pass go, do not collect $200 dollars.  Here's what you have to do:

Complete these sentences and write them down on paper:

as John.  John played in only _____ as many games as Jim.

    b.  John spent 20 minutes shopping for a birthday present for his mom (that's me!).  Jim spent 5 minutes s...

Rachel Wins Trip to the Prize Bucket

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, September 27, 2010,
Rachel was the only one who capitalized on the free trip to the prize bucket.  She found out that if you have 2 colors of hockey gloves and 3 different colors of hockey socks, you can make 6 different uniform choices.  She drew a picture or factor tree and also did a table showing:                                               socks
                                                                                orange    white    black

Trip to the Prize Bucket, No Tickets Needed

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, September 24, 2010,
Read my last post to see what you need to do to earn a trip to the prize bucket, for free!!  You just have to try to do it all.  Have someone help you.  Maybe you can do it now that you spent some more time on tables today!  Show me what you did and even if it's not right, you can go to the bucket for trying.

Have a great weekend.  Look for all the opportunities for extra work and independent reading credit (the garden packet) and come ready for another great week of blooming on Monday.

If you ...

Dreary Rainy Outside--Cheery Sunny in 2505

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, September 23, 2010,
We had another fun day of learning in garden 2505.  We had to work on the silliness weed a bit and do some pulling of weeds in our hallway walking behavior but overall, another day of blooming.

Kids, I will give you an immediate trip to the prize bucket (no tickets or luck necessary) if you draw the table, the factor tree and write the equation for this math question:

The White Bear Hockey Team has 3 sets of socks--black socks, white socks, and orange socks.  They also have two sets of gl...

Write on the Blog, Please!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, September 22, 2010,
Come on you guys, you need to write to me.

Hey, did you all see Jordan's coolio book project?  I just love it when you make up games that go with your book.  I will always let you have a chance to play them.  Good creative ideas, Jordan.  More kids will play it tomorrow.

Today's BHTQ is:  blog an idea of how you are going to remember which one is the column and which one is the row when looking at a table of information.  Which one is horizontal and which one is vertical.  You will get some t...

I Can't Believe I'm the First Absence of the Year!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, September 21, 2010,
I can't believe I am missing the field trip to Wargo Nature Center.  I am so sad. :(  It is such a beautiful fall day today, the sun is shining and I just know you are having a wonderful time spending your day outside.  Lucky!!

I don't sound a ton better, that's the bad news.  Everybody else I know who has had this sickness is already better, even some people who got it after me.  It always settles in my lungs and lasts forever.  I think I will be at school tomorrow anyway because I am no long...

My husband has put some new things on the site.  Can you name 2 of them?  If you blog a comment naming AT LEAST 2 of the new things and where on the site you found them, you can have a ticket on Monday.

Speaking of tickets, I better get to the store and buy some more!  You guys are earning them faster than I can stock them.  Way to go!  That means you are a great class doing lots of great things and earning tickets.  We didn't have time for a ticket drawing on Friday so we are going to have to...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, September 16, 2010,
I put on the peek that curriculum night is at 5:30 but it's not--it's at 6:00.  SORRY!!

The BHTQ has to do with limericks. Blog a comment about 1 characteristic of a limerick.  Also, you can't write something that someone else has already written.  Good luck!  If you can do it, you will get 2 tickets.

Have a great night and see you tomorrow.  Mrs. K

Tuesday's BHTQ

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, September 14, 2010,
For two tickets, tell which kind of flower has roots that go dormant in the winter--annuals or perennials?  For another one blog a comment on what it means to be dormant.

For another couple of tickets write down a definition for "inverse operations" and explain what math operations are inverse of eachother.

Finally, tomorrow is HAT day!  Wear your favorite HAT in support of the BEAR's Homecoming Week. Remember that if your whole team wears a hat, you will all get a ticket or a piece of candy. ...

The Big Hairy Ticket Question

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, September 13, 2010,

I will give 3 tickets to anybody who can walk up to me before they even go in the classroom door and show me a piece of paper upon which they have written what we call the answer in a division problem.  2 more tickets if you also write down the name for the answer in adding, subtracting and multiplying.  Good luck.  BY the way, the answers are somewhere on the website.

Of course there is also a ticket for anyone who gets KRYPTO and anyone who has their planner signed.

Let's all hope Carly feels...

Off to a Great Start

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, September 10, 2010,
This was a quick, fast paced, fun filled week.  I know I need a nap.  Next week is sure to seem long as it will last 5 whole days everybody.

To earn yourself 5 tickets, you can bring in the Math Sheet 1 that went home in your mail Friday with the "Associative Property of Addition" part completed.  Another way to earn a ticket is to explore the site and report in a blog comment on how old my third son, the one in the middle, is.  Finally, a new KRYPTO has been posted.  Bring in the solution a...

Carly wrote on the blog a question about what specialist we have tomorrow.  Thanks for asking such a great question, Carly.  We have music tomorrow, then we have media and finally on Thursday we have phy ed.

This class already taught me something new.  Carly and another classmate both clicked on the title of my big comment.  I did not know you could do that.  We found their comments because every time a comment is posted my computer at home gets a notice about it.  I searched and searched fo...

Jamie Lyn Kovacs I am married to John Kovacs and have 5 sons, John age 33, Jim age 31, Joe age 26, Jake age 24, Vlad age 22. I also have 3 grandchildren, Jack and Lydia, who are the kids of my oldest son and his wife, and Baby Kennedy who is the newborn of my second son and his wife. The older kids are 5 and 2. My family lives in White Bear Lake. ____________My son John is married and lives in Turkey with his wife Pamela and son Jack and daughter Lydia. Hey, that makes me a grandmother--yikes! John is a teacher too. A couple years ago he taught at White Bear Lake but for the last couple years he's been teaching social studies to middle school kids at Hope Academy in Minneapolis. He also has taken classes at a seminary. He wrote a book called "The Historia" which you can buy on Amazon.com. He was a hockey player and played college hockey at Bethel. His wife is a lawyer worked at a big law firm in Minneapolis. Cool! Hey, guess what. I am a lawyer too!! This will be my 13th year teaching as I practiced law for over 15 years. Teaching is way more fun!! Now they are living in Turkey and simply trying to learn the language and make connections. This year my son will be teaching high school world history at an international school. __________My son Jim lives in Blaine with his wife Courtney. They both graduated from Winona State where they were star pitchers on their baseball and softball teams. Jim graduated from St. Thomas School of Law. He clerked for a judge and now he works for a law firm in Golden Valley. His wife graduated from Des Moines University Medical School where she studied to be a physical therapist. She works for Twin Cities Orthopedics. You can check out pictures of their wedding on the summer vacation tab. __________My son Joe graduated from Moorhead State. He, like his brothers was a good athlete and loved sports. He also is a great singer and performer and was Danny Zuko in Grease, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and Curly in Oklahoma--all in WBL high school. He has a teaching license and did some long term subbing in WBL most recently at Hugo Elementary School. Next he worked at Infinite Campus training teachers on software that his employer makes. He got to travel all over the United States. He is married to Emily, and there are pictures of them you can check out on the vacation tab as well. Emily is a pharmacist for CVS in Targets. They just moved to Washington DC so he could attend George Washington University and get an MBA. __________My son Jake graduated from University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. He is a superstar in math. He was a TA for a professor in the computer science department. He really likes to golf and was on the White Bear Lake golf team. He worked at Gem Lake so if you ever golf there, you may have seen Jake. Do you like golf? As soon as he graduated he started working full time at a company that writes online computer games. He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that. We traveled to his homeland, Latvia, 3 times to make him ours. He has been living with us since March of 2010. He graduated from WBL High School too. He traveled to China with the high school a couple years ago and wants to go back. Can you believe that you can travel with your classmates and friends when you are in high school? He is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He spent a semester in Seoul, S. Korea in a study abroad program through River Falls. We will officially be empty nesters. _________My husband John works for Collins Electrical Company as a project manager but he is amazing with computers. He set up this web site for me!! Thanks John.
