Who Knew?!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, November 30, 2010,
So Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer almost had a different name.  I will give you two tickets if you blog a comment about what other names the story writer almost used instead.

The BHTQ has to do with why the story writer had Rudolph be a picked on reindeer.  If you can explain why in 3 sentences or more, you may have 4 tickets.  Hint:  Who did he fashion Rudolph after?

Finally, our afternoon behaviors continue to be a problem.  Hmmm...In the morning it's like I'm teaching a lesson on how to teac...

Conversion Completed

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, November 29, 2010,
We have convereted our room from a turkey coop to the north land regions where the reindeer roam.  We have started working on all things reindeer.  To that end, if you have a Rudolph story book or movie, please bring it in tomorrow.  We are going to learn all we can about good old Rudolph and consider the bullying he had to endure before he became famous.

Our reindeer booklets look good.  It took some doing but it was worth it, they look GREAT!!  Tomorrow we will start to work in them.

Our morn...

How do you feel about Pigs?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, November 24, 2010,
After our week of creating, take care of, and loving turkeys, it is going to be hard to stomach eating one for Thanksgiving.  Maybe we'll have ham!

You may have an immediate trip to the prize bucket if you blog 5 times of more over the holiday weekend.

The BHTQ has to do with your family's Thanksgiving or New Year meal.  Blog a comment about how it was, what your favorite food was and who cooked most of the food and you can have 4 tickets.  Your comment has to be at least 20 words long!

Wasn't...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, November 24, 2010,
Tomorrow we are going to introduce our turkeys to our first grade buddies, get together with our 5th grade mentors, finish watching Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving, watch Turkey Run (it's better known as Chicken Run and is HILARIOUS) and write about what our turkeys might be doing in the off season.  Best of all, I have a little, well ok a BIG surprise for you.  I can't tell you but if you blog a comment about what you think the surprise might be I will let you have an immediate trip to the priz...

Gobble Gobble

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, November 22, 2010,
The kids have invited their turkeys home for dinner--to meet the family and eat with them, NOT be eaten by them.  Ok, ok, so this is just a pine cone turkey that wouldn't taster very good.  Still, how must a turkey feel about being invited over for dinner?

We reassured our turkeys over and over again that this would be fun but some were still scared.  You should have heard them!

Ok, so here's a quick trip to the prize bucket--if you write a blog comment that tells about your experience gettin...

Back to Reality

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Sunday, November 21, 2010,
I had a nice, lazy, relaxing weekend which was just what I needed.  Last weekend was crazy because my mother (Grandma Lolo and I hosted 13 singers from South Dakota who were in town for a music festival at my church.  Then we had to go to the concert.  There were 500 high school kids singing!  Way cool.  Then I was sick last week which left me rather tired so...I rested all weekend.

Tomorrow we are going to write some more things for our turkey and then tomorrow you are going to invite him to ...

I'll write you later.

Wow, Will I ever get Well?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, November 18, 2010,
So the doctor gave me a different kind fo medicine and I took one and about a half hour later threw up.  What's up with that?  Now I'm scared to take another one because I don't know if it was the medicine that made me sick or something else.  I also had taken a pain reliever and drank a TON of Cranberry juice and for sure that can make a person want to be sick.  Anyway, for some reason I do have less pain and feel somewhat better so I plan to see you all at school tomorrow.

The BHTQ from yest...

The Very Rough Day

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, November 18, 2010,
Today was a very rough day.  8 members of our class had to visit with the principal and some even had to spend the day with her.  The classroom was not the same without everyone there.  Here's what happened:

Yesterday I needed to go to the doctor at 2:00.  The school was short of subs so a nice old guy (ok, he was about 57) who hasn't been in a classroom for years but who wants to sub and has a sub license was called in.  Hmmm...The kids smelled his fear almost immediately and the trouble bega...

Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, November 15, 2010,
We all agreed, the snow was super fun to wake up to on Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, the excitement has not yet worn off.  Hmmm....I need it to mellow at least.

Tomorrow we have Kyle the Art Guy right after morning work.  Then we will do a little word work, head off to music (don't forget your recorder) and come back to do some more storyproblems in math.  In the afternoon we are going to work on the digestive system and foods some more and then do some math IE where some kids are going to...

Great Day People!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, November 10, 2010,
Congrats to Josh Dotte who won the cupcake in the last minute ticket drawing.  Hope your lips aren't too blue. I wonder how many calories are in a blue cupcake?  Blog me the answer!

Today's BHTQ has to do with the activity or excercise half of the scale.  For 2 tickets, blog a comment that tells what your favorite way to get exercise or burn up calories is.  For 2 extra tickets, figure out how many calories you think you burn doing this exercise and blog that too.  Here's the only catch--if so...

Classroom Skill Work

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, November 9, 2010,
Tomorrow we are going to need to spend some time working on classroom skills.  Little things like NOT blurting out random thoughts, not talking while the teacher is talking, not walking around the room during teaching time, following directions and the like.  All these things need work.  It was a rough day.

Think of what YOU need to work on.  Everybody needs to work on something even if it's just "ignore and not laugh at the bad behaviors of others."  Tomorrow is a new day, what will YOU do to...

Finally Fabulous Friday

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, November 5, 2010,
Don't get me wrong, I will miss you a lot.  [there's that word again.  Hmmm...check the homework tab.  I think that word is worth some tickets if you blog something about it.  What do you need to blog?  Check the homework tab!]  But I totally need a day to sleep in and it is going to be tomorrow!!  Yes!!!  I told my husband this morning that I wish I was one of those people who popped right out of bed in the morning, ready to go.  Then I said, "I will be tomorrow, at about 10:00 a.m."  Ha Ha!...

A Quick Trip to the Bucket

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, November 3, 2010,
Somewhere on this website is a new chance for a trip to the prize bucket.  You need to find it.  It is NOT in this blog though it requires you to write a comment on the blog.  Hmmm...where could it be?  Better check all the tabs to see where it is hiding.

There are some new additions to the site.  How do you like the phrases and words in other languages?  Have you checked out the pictures from the fall festival?  Check 'em out.  I'm going to go home tonight and add some pics from buddy time on...

Back to Reality

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Monday, November 1, 2010,
With the excitement of Halloween behind us and the thrill of Thanksgiving still weeks away, we are ready for a few solid weeks of "reality school."

Tomorrow is election day and Minnesota has a few people running for governor.  The governor is to the state as the President is to the country.  In other words, he's in charge.  Tomorrow we will vote on the job of governor in class.  Research the candidates and know what the issues are and be ready to lead a debate.  If you so this, I will reward y...

He also has taken classes at a seminary. He wrote a book called "The Historia" which you can buy on Amazon.com. He was a hockey player and played college hockey at Bethel. His wife is a lawyer worked at a big law firm in Minneapolis. Cool! Hey, guess what. I am a lawyer too!! This will be my 13th year teaching as I practiced law for over 15 years. Teaching is way more fun!! Now they are living in Turkey and simply trying to learn the language and make connections. He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that. We traveled to his homeland, Latvia, 3 times to make him ours. He has been living with us since March of 2010. He graduated from WBL High School too.
