Search for the Hidden Number

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, April 30, 2010, In : Messages from Mrs. K
There is a number hidden somewhere on this website.  Mr. Kovacs hid it.  There will be opportunities to earn tickets on Monday if you know what the number is that he hid and if you can tell what tab it was hidden under and where on the page it is.  What color is it?  Know as much as you can about it as 20 tickets are on the line!!

In other ticket news, everyone who participates in a pi chain this weekend will earn 5 tickets for every entry they make.  I will start the chain right now with 3.1...

Where did this week go?

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, April 30, 2010,
I can't believe we only have 6 more weeks of school left.  Where has the time gone.  I just love this class so much and am going to miss every single one of them during the summer.

GIrls, tomorrow is classroom lunch.  I am excited for you to come in and eat with me.  It's a picnic in the room.  Fun!

As I blogged in a comment, we are going to talk about pie tomorrow.  What is your favorite kind of pie?  Mine is....I just love ALL pie (well not cocunut cream but really everything else).  Sadly,...

For a Monday, Not so Bad!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, April 27, 2010,
We had a great day, especially for a Monday.  Monday's can be hard but this one wasn't too bad.

Tomorrow a few kids are going to find themselves inside at recess because of the results of their social studies test.  Hey guys, it was open book and you had all the time in the world to look up answers.  How could 8 kids have done below what we want from them and what they want from themselves.?  There will be a chance to improve the grade but it will involve staying in tomorrow at recess and th...

The Great American Pastime is coming to 4th Grade

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Saturday, April 24, 2010,
Congrats to all the kids who came in knowing Cal Ripkin Jr retired in 2001.  The man played in an amazing number of baseball games.  Like Lou Gehrig, he played in a record number of consequtive games.  They were both hard working dedicated guys who hated to miss a game.

We are going to continue learning more about baseball and baseball heroes over the course of the next 2 weeks.  We are going to read baseball story books, calculate batting averages, learn how to score a baseball game, and more...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, April 22, 2010, In : Messages from Mrs. K
Yes! We survived.  Everyone was here and all the tests are in and we are done done done.

Tomorrow it is back to the regular old grind. However, I am pretty excited because we are going to look at hereos for awhile and this week it's Lou Gehrig and next week we are all going to read a baseball book.  There are some great hero stories in these books.  Stories about guys like Shoelss Joe Jackson, Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth.  Some kids are going to read about a small town hero, some about a bas...

MCA Math is DONE!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, April 15, 2010,
So now it's back to the regular routine and grind for the rest of this week.  We are starting our hero unit tomorrow with a Happy Birthday Dr. King story.  It's a cute story about a kid writing a paper about ML King.  You'll like it.  We will read and take notes in social studies.  We will wrap up our fun with plots and grid coordinates and move on to chapter 9.

See ya tomorrow.

We are 1/4 done, 1/2 done with the math.

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, April 13, 2010,
Explain your thinking.  Well, I know that we are going to take MCA tests on 4 different days and now one day is done so one out of four is done which is 1/4 or one fourth.  After tomorrow we will have 2 out of 4 days done which is 2/4 or two fourths which can also be stated as one half.

Anybody who draws a picture to go with that will get to have 5 tickets tomorrow morning.  If you carry it a step further and do how much we will have left after we are done on Tuesday and Wednesday of next wee...

Great News!! Jake made the Golf team!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Tuesday, April 13, 2010,
Jake had his first JV golf meet today.  He made a few mistakes but the first match is under his belt and he's rip roarin ready to golf again tomorrow.  He didn't eat a good enough breakfast, no protein.  He missed lunch at school and didn't bring a water.  YIKES!!  That's a lot of mistakes.  Your body is a well oiled machine, it isn't going to go anywhere without gas and oil.

This is a good lesson for all you MCA test takers as well.  In order to do your best, you need to eat right, get plen...

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Friday, April 9, 2010, In : Messages from Mrs. K
Well, I didn't win.  The High School Spanish teacher who has been teaching in the White Bear Lake School District for 36 years was named Teacher of the Year for 2010.  Still, I got a cool pen thing with a magnet that I will show you tomorrow.  I guess she has been nominated before but never won so she was just really thrilled to win.  I am happy for her, I know she is a great teacher and has worked really hard for White Bear Lake Schools.  Congrats Ms. Dahle.  Lauren Clyne, the former student...

Making Good Choices

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Thursday, April 8, 2010, In : Messages from Mrs. K
We are really trying to spend time talking about making good choices.  From who to play with to behaviors we engage in to food we eat to doing our homework or not, we make a lot of choices every day.  How can we remind ourselves to make good choices?  What are the consequences of making NOT such great choices?  We will work on this again tomorrow as some of us are taking our sweet time in catching on to this concept.  Right?  I think you know who you are.

We had a surprise visit today from the...

I'm Tired!!

Posted by Jamie Kovacs on Wednesday, April 7, 2010,
So tonight was the big interview as they try to narrow down the teacher of the year candidates from 6 to 1.  Would you believe I had to sit in a room of 22 people asking me questions and I had to answer really quickly and try to say something that sounded smart and good.  Yikes!!

Brady, there is a tool box paper for our grade.  Some kids have already turned their's in.  Remind me tomorrow and you can go to the office to ask for another one.

Have a great night.  Let's all be really really nice t...

He spends his day writing code to create games. He loves that kind of writing, do you? He taught many of my students to write code in Scratch. _________Vlad officially became our son in June of 2010 although we have loved him since we met him a couple years before that.
